Choosing a Web Designer in Hampshire
Saturday, February 12th, 2011Are you based in Hampshire looking to setup a new business? When setting up any new business it is important to watch every penny and not start signing lots of cheques for crap you don’t really need! It’s ok to drink coffee out of a “Worlds Best Dad” mug because you don’t need a mug, pen or t-shirt with a company logo on it… These things can come later!
Certain things however you will need to sort out pronto! Choosing a decent web designer or web design company in Hampshire is one of these crucial decisions, as a good website can bring in more business to pay for these personalise mugs, pens etc!
Working with a local based web design company is always a good idea, it makes communication much easier and it supports the local economy. Let’s face it, if we all shopped at Tesco then the local fruit and veg store would not last long! I have heard many horror stories about companies outsourcing web design and web marketing services to cheaper overseas companies, my advice… DON’T DO IT!
Several key factors to consider:
What is your budget? It is always a good idea to clearly identify your web design and marketing budget then make the web design company aware of it… This makes life easier for everyone. Do your homework on web design companies in your local area, be it Portsmouth, Hampshire, Surrey or anywhere across the globe! Which web design company has the nicer looking site? Which web designer comes top of Google when you search for ‘Web Design Your Location’? Who do they work with, and how good is the web design portfolio? It is also a good idea to contact one or two of the companies listed in a web design portfolio, why not ask a few questions about the quality of service / product they received.
Finally, before you start shopping around it is also worth noting the different types of web people out there… You will commonly find these broken down into the following categories:
Programmer: Responsible for database and functional stuff
Internet Marketing Consultant: Search Engine Optimisation
Graphic Designer: Making things look pretty and easy to digest
Each of the above skill sets will be important for your business and its future development. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you may just get all four of these skills from the same web designer or company.
Choosing a web designer in Hampshire will not be easy; the south coast of England boasts some real talent and creative people offering great services to businesses! I would suggest you take your time, email several different web design companies in and around Hampshire and then think long and hard about it… Good luck!
