Being referred to people outside the network

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

At Business Networking Link we encourage all members to promote other businesses to new potential clients and suppliers outside the network. With this in mind it is very important that you make a positive impression to those you meet at an event. Think about how you introduce yourself, think about the quality of your business card, remember to dress to impress, and finally keep notes of names / businesses that you meet… Why not invest in a pocket sized notepad specifically for networking events; keep notes so you can start follow up emails with ‘Hi David’ and not ‘Dear Sir’!

Our events are not about who has the biggest house, most expensive car or more popular brand… We want all who attend to meet as equals, listen and learn, ask questions, and build those all important friendships with similar minded business people. If you are based in the South of England, in business (or thinking about starting a business) and would like to find out more, then please contact us. By building / expanding a business and entrepreneurial network of people we believe all those involved will benefit.

A business community will generate new business

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Let’s face it; every business is slightly different and marketing methods that work for one company may not work for the next! Take my business Tidy Design, we have tried spending several hundred on a Yellow Pages advert, I have walked the streets of Portsmouth posting flyers, we have tried many different marketing techniques however, being a web design company our business (as you would expect) comes mainly from the web. That said we do get a lot of repeat business from existing clients and customer recommendations, so it is not all about our rankings on Google!

Any method of marketing that generates new business for your company is good. Referrals are our favourite because it often means you have done something right, or made an impression. Referrals have a big advantage over cold-calling; remember you already have one foot in the door thanks to the initial recommendation (So don’t forget to thank that person).

Business owners often know and hang around with other business owners; it is commonly referred to as a business community. For any new businesses networking with business owners can be essential, not only to expand contacts, generate new business, but also to learn from their experience… Business is far from easy so listening to how others have expanded / developed a brand can be very motivational and highly inspirational.

At Business Networking Link we aim to channel this entrepreneurial energy and help build solid, long lasting business relationships. If you love moving from project to project, if you thrive off business or the excitement of new opportunities, then why not come along to one of our Business Networking Link events.
